Description

NuGold is a brass alloy that has been specially formulated for jewelry and is also known as "Red Brass," "Merlin's Gold," and "Jeweler's Bronze." It has a rich warm color and if polished resembles gold without the high cost of gold. Nu Gold contains 85% copper and 15% zinc and no nickel. It tarnishes considerably slower than copper, and is easy to clean.

Our jump rings follow the American Wire Gauge (AWG), also known as Brown and Sharpe (B&S). All sizes listed are inside diameter (I.D.), measured in millimeters which corresponds to the size of the mandrel onto which the wire is wound. Use these I.D.'s as a guide not an absolute. Rings are sold by the ounce (oz). Occasionally you might get a misshapen ring or an end cut half ring. To account for this, we put extra rings in every bag. If you need to know outside diameter or need the ID in inches, please contact us.

AWG Wire Measurements
Size Inches (Imperial) Millimeter (Metric)
20awg (Aluminum) .035" .9mm
20awg (Other Metals) .032" .8mm
18awg .040" 1.0mm
16awg 3/64" 1.2mm
14awg 1/16" 1.6mm
12awg .079" 2.0mm
If you are used to SWG (Standard Wire Gauge) sizing that some other vendors use.

    Tarnish very quickly

They’re very bright and shiny right out of the package, but after making a bracelet they looked very dull as if they’d been worn for years. I wasn’t very excited about that.

    Love Nugold

I use these to make men's Byzantine bracelets. They are perfect. They line up perfectly and stay shiny. They look amazingly like 14k gold.

Good to work with, not for long term

    Feb 3rd 2017

The NuGold looks bright and shiny to start with, and is VERY nice to work with, however, it starts to lose some of its color fairly quickly and has a strong odor of copper and zinc (like smelling a stack of pennies).

If I use this is the future, I will have to find a way to clear coat it for the long term.

    Great substitute for gold-filled!

    Dec 2nd 2016

I used these combined with silver-filled rings to make a Byzantine Rose bracelet. I love the look of the mixed metals and it was way more affordable than gold filled and sterling silver. High quality and a pleasure to work with. I won't buy jump rings anywhere else!
